“No,” James insisted that this was not the right one. He needed a special kind of this, but Nathania didn’t seem to understand. Well, it’s more that he hasn’t explained what he wanted. There is no time for that.
“Please, this is the best I can find.” She started to get frustrated. It has been a week since he got restless looking for a certain kind of… what? He didn’t even tell her about what he was so eager to get. “Would you just tell me what you really want? I mean, specifically?”
No trace of him. James already scurried off somewhere else.
“Oh well,” Nathania sighed. “Guess ‘there is just not enough time’.” She decided to give up. Well, ‘surrender’ might fit more these days. She had tried to help, but she can’t help anyone who wouldn’t tell her precisely what they need. There is no time now, she had her own things that she needed to attend to. So she decided to let James be. He is already grown up. He should be able to take care of himself, right? Right?
I actually don’t know precisely what I’m looking for. The only thing I know is that in order to craft the ultimate robot, I need a special kind of material: gold. But in what form? What is gold actually doing? Besides, all I know is that gold can’t be used in pure form, so I have to also determine the ratio of gold and some other stuff. I also don’t know that!
Books? I have sat in the library for days and even through nights, and could not find a single book that talked about how to apply the gold to the robot. Even worse, there were barely any books about robot building! What kind of world is this?
I know that Nathania has been so kind and caring and helping me out finding the thing I need. But how could she help me if I don’t even know what I need?
The best way to solve this problem is to talk to an expert. But I don’t know any experts in robot-building! At least in the area.
Heck, what should I expect anyway? This is not the earth I came from, so I heard. Nathania and I were checking out some hole on the wall of our new home, and we suddenly ended up in a market.
The people around told me that holes has been showing up in their world lately. While for some reason nothing could go out, too often random things spawn out. Sometimes cars and just other objects, sometimes beings from the place I knew and sometimes just obscure things.
Interestingly, there were many books that got transported too. That is why I could find some books about robots. It seems like they have somewhat different material here, but gold is abundant. I wanted to start working on my devices again, which has always been what I wanted to do if not having to worry about money. So here I am, trying to make robots in a world where people just shake their head for any mechanical invention. You can get everything with magic!
After some time, Nathania and I finally found a place where people did not rely as much on that thing. The people of Bormen were in fact said to be cursed and got deprived of any significant magic abilities. So we went there, after working hard collecting enough money for a ship ride! A ship. Ride!
But here I am, sitting in Bormen, where people were astounded by my recreation of bicycles, skateboards (the people in my area are really happy to use them, by the way). I also made lamps, flash lights. Of course, I also invented a small generator that uses the natural forces. Believe me, this place is so easy to get electricity from, unlike our place!
Anyways, what was I doing again?
Right! Gold!
Right! I wanted gold threads for the cables!
“I got it! Nathania, I got it!” James returned two days later.
As she went out of the room to greet him, she was shocked by the big bags he brought home. “James, what is that?”
“Guess what!” He smirked. “Gold cables!!! I also crafted them with the jeweler, so he is now interested in making cables!”
“James, I am glad that you found what you were looking for. But this much?”
“Well, for keepsake! Just in case.”
Nathania took a deep breath. “How much money did you spend for them?”
He shrugged. “I spend all in the little pouch you gave me the other day.”
She sighed. “James. It was our savings. You were supposed to deposit them in the bank the other day. Guess you forgot?”
